The area consists of 463 apartments built between 1969 and 1973. It includes childcare services, a primary school up to grade 6, and an upper secondary school. There is a municipal residential care home, Backsippan, with 40 apartments, and in 2013 Ljusdal’s first sheltered housing (senior housing), with 39 apartments, was completed. A further 27 apartments were completed in 2017.
A third sheltered housing complex, Gullvivan Sheltered Housing, with 18 apartments, was completed in 2021.
The murals Seven Wonders by artist Kalle Landegren can be viewed in the area, along with the artwork Miracle by Santiago Mostyn.
In the immediate vicinity, there is a wide range of leisure activities, such as an artificially frozen bandy rink, illuminated jogging tracks, a curling hall, and an indoor tennis hall. There is also a well-stocked grocery store, an indoor riding arena, and nearby forest areas.
Gärdeåsskolan (grades 1-6), Slottegymnasiet och the student residence Hammaren are all located in the same area, along with a preschool, after-school care, and a local hospital.
